Reading Time: 2 minutes
Shangela is now gearing up for the Dancing With the Stars finale alongside her partner Gleb Savchenko. Recently, the drag queen has shared the reason she’s gone so far in the competition.
Shangela is Grateful to be in the Top Four
The first ever drag entertainer to join DWTS will strut into the ballroom proud next episode. In a recent interview with Live with Kelly and Ryan, Shangela expressed how grateful she is to belong with other celebrity finalists.
According to her, firing up the ballroom each night has been nothing but a “blast,” especially with Gleb as her partner. However, beyond the exciting moments, she is aware of the responsibility that weighs with the opportunity of being in DWTS.
“Visibility matters,” she said. “And to be a representative for my LGBTQ+ community right there in the ballroom and turning it out now in the finals.”
In the Finale, Shangela will battle it out against Charli D’Amelio, Gabby Windey, and Wayne Brady. As she guns for the Mirrorball Trophy, she’s certainly bringing the queer community with her.
Her Secret is… Hard Work and Admiration of The Sport
Coming into the competition with no technical training, Shangela realized the effort it takes to dance. While she’s had some relevant experiences as a drag queen, she’s especially clueless about ballroom dancing.
“I have the greatest respect for ballroom dancers now because dancing is truly a sport,” she said. “I can tell you certain joints that will remind me in the morning that dancing is a sport.”
Admittedly, DWTS has been an “emotional ride” for the drag queen. Nonetheless, she has kept going because she hopes to inspire people.
“Some people dance from the brain. I dance from the heart. And that’s why I think I’m in the finals,” she said.
Dancing With The Stars season 31 Finale airs on Monday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Disney+.
