American Idol winner Carrie Underwood won big at this week’s CMT Music Awards, and broke a huge record in the process. The A.V. Club reports that Carrie now has 20 awards from the organization — the most for any artist in history.
This year, Carrie won two awards at the show — Famale Video of the Year for “Love Wins,” and Video of the Year for “Cry Pretty.” Making things even more impressive, she beat out 13 other nominees for this year’s Video of the Year title.
Carrie has won Video of the Year at the event several times before, including every year from 2012 to 2015. Some of her other famous videos which took home the award in past years include “Before He Cheats,” “Cowboy Casanova,” and “Blown Away.”
“This was one that was very, very near and dear to my heart and very important to me,” Carrie said of the “Cry Pretty” video during her acceptance speech. She released the song after suffering a scary fall that left her with a broken wrist and more than 40 stitches in her face.
Carrie also performed her new song “Southbound” at the CMT Awards. The singer is currently on her Cry Pretty 360 Tour.
Carrie told Entertainment Tonight after the awards that she has her fans to thank for her record-breaking career. “That’s how I’m here in the first place,” she said. “They’ve been voting for me since day one, since I was on American Idol. They know the drill.”
She added that she still has fans tell her they voted for her on Idol, even 14 years later. Carrie celebrated the anniversary of her win last month by posting a funny photo of herself on Instagram and making a joke about her song “Cry Pretty.” It looks like everything has come full circle now.
