We can hardly believe it’s been 14 years since Carrie Underwood won Season 4 of American Idol. The country star celebrated her life-changing 2005 win over the weekend with a sweet Instagram post — and a self-deprecating joke to go with it.

Carrie posted a photo of the moment she was announced as the winner on her Instagram Story. She can be seen standing next to host Ryan Seacrest and crying tears of joy. “14 years ago today…my world changed,” Carrie wrote, adding, “It’s true when I say that ‘you can’t cry pretty…'” Check out the funny post below, via the Huffington Post.

Carrie’s joke is of course a reference to her song “Cry Pretty.” The song was inspired by a scary fall she experienced in 2017, which left her with a broken wrist and 40 to 50 stitches in her face. It’s obviously a serious topic, but we love that Carrie is still able to use the title for a laugh.

And she’s not the only famous American Idol winner to poke fun at herself. Season 1 winner and Voice coach Kelly Clarkson posted an awkward photo of herself on social media in February, encouraging fans to share their own worst looks. Even Voice winner Chevel Shepherd joined in on the fun.

Carrie recently returned to her roots to perform “Southbound” on this season’s American Idol finale. When host Ryan Seacrest asked her about her own win, Carrie said she remembered “being horrified, scared, nervous, excited, all of the above.” She’s also appeared on the show in the past to mentor contestants.

Last season’s American Idol winner Maddie Poppe recently reminisced about her win as well, posting a comparison from one year ago to today. She told new winner Laine Hardy, “you have a lot to look forward to.”
