We all know that Luke Bryan is going to be one of the judges on the rebooted version of American Idol in March. He was the second judge added after Katy Perry was signed back in the summer to a 25 million dollar deal. So, there was a lot of speculation as to what kind of deal Luke Bryan was going to get seeing as the show blew its budget on Katy Perry. Luckily, Luke had someone i’n his corner that knows a thing or two about being a singing competition show judge: Blake Shelton.
It’s no secret that Blake and Luke are friends. Luke has said that he looks up to Blake as a kind of mentor. Luke has even appeared on The Voice to help Blake with his team. So, it’s no surprise that when he needed help with the negotiations with ABC over American Idol that Luke would go to his friend Blake. Blake told country station WCCQ,
“I actually spoke to him for months about, you know, he was gonna be a judge on American Idol and he was in talks with them and I kept giving him ideas about how to go back at ’em as far as negotiating cause I know a little bit about this now, and so I’m sure that ABC’s network people, they probably hate my ass over there (laughs), but I’ve been doing it long enough I wanted them to treat him right, you know, so hopefully that all worked out for him.”
As nice as Blake seems on the show I bet he’s a beast in the conference room. You don’t get this far in the business without knowing a thing or two about how to negotiate.
