American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta recently opened up about entering a “fun, flirty era” since choosing to leave the Mormon Church in 2022. The 34-year-old singer recently released a new single called “Crème Brulée.”
David Archuleta Says He ‘Can Do What I Want’ Now
In 2021, Archuleta came out as a member of the LGBTQ community. The following year, he chose to leave the Church of Latter-Day Saints after being raised in the religion and even serving as a Mormon missionary in 2011.
“I like to be a little more sensual, a little more in touch with my body and my sexuality and just being confident in who I am,” Archuleta told Us Weeklyabout how he’s changed since leaving the church. “It takes a little growing into that sometimes, but it feels great to do.”
This is a change from the religion he grew up in, in which members are “not supposed to talk about sex.” He explained, “Now that I’m not practicing in the Mormon religion anymore, it’s like, ‘Well, now I can do what I want — even if it’s a little shocking for people.’”
Archuleta added that he’s “more comfortable in his skin” now, and he believes that “there should be a little more acceptance” of members of the LGBTQ community among Mormons.
Earlier this month, Archuleta released a new single called “Crème Brulée,” along with an accompanying music video. The project features the singer wearing a sheer tank top as he dances with a group of people.
In a press release about the video, Archuleta said that dance has become an “outlet to feel liberated and express myself,” adding, “Dancing brings me a newfound confidence and makes me feel like I’m more in touch with my body and sensuality.”
The song’s lyrics also show off a new, sexier side to Archuleta, as well as incorporating a few words in Spanish, as he sings, “Oh no, there goes all of your clothes / Speaking words you don’t know / Yo te vuelvo loco, loco.”
