Ariana Grande Jamming Out to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” is a Whole Vibe

Last night, The Voice celebrated the released of longtime coach Kelly Clarkson’s hit song “Since U Been Gone.” Clarkson shared a video to Twitter of the live audience singing along to the song to celebrate the anniversary. She made sure to also include footage of the other The Voice coaches jamming to this iconic song.
Clarkson’s song became a huge hit after the singer won the first season of American Idol. “Since U Been Gone” was released 17 years ago on November 16, 2004, two weeks before the release of her second studio album Breakaway. Even though Breakaway was released two years prior to Clarkson winning Idol this album still topped all of the charts.
Clarkson’s Twitter video begins with the singer jamming to her own song while everyone in the audience sings along. Later in the video, coach Ariana Grande runs over to Clarkson’s coach chair while singing along to the lyrics right in Clarkson’s face.
Grande is fully into the song and has totally earned the title of “Kelly Clarkson mega fan” from that performance. John Legend is also seen singing along, while Blake Shelton is taking his spot at his chair. Blake, how do you not know one of Clarkson’s biggest hits?
17 Years Since the Release of “Since U Been Gone”
This song was written and produced by Max Martin and Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. The writer had Pink in mind as the original performer. Pink turned the song down and so did Hilary Duff because she could not hit the higher notes. Record producer Clive Davis eventually convinced the writer and producer to give the song to Clarkson. Clarkson added heavier guitar and harder drums to mask the intense pop vibe in the demo.
This song had almost immediate success. It received only positive reviews from critics and was considered to be one of the best pop songs of the decade at one point. In 2006 “Since U Been Gone” was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) but this song’s success doesn’t stop there. It has topped multiple charts and has become one of the most well known songs ever. In 2010 this song was ranked at No. 482 out of 500 of Rolling Stones’ Greatest Songs of All Time list. After only 11 years this song now ranks at No. 93 in 2021.
“Since U Been Gone” continues to be a the singalong jam no one can resist. Even Grande had to jump out of her chair and jam when this absolute classic came on.
