Reading Time: 2 minutes
American Idol Season 23 returned on Easter Sunday with the theme “Songs of Faith,” as the Top 20 was revealed. These contestants performed for their chance to earn America’s vote and move on in the competition during Monday’s show.
Who Made It Into the American Idol Top 20?
Last week, we saw the Top 24 take the stage at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii. While the judges provided their feedback, it was up to the viewers at home to vote for which contestants they wanted to move on in the competition. The Top 20 was revealed during Sunday’s show, leading into their performances.
So who made it through? All three Platinum Ticket winners (Canaan James Hill, Kolbi Jordan, and Filo) are in the Top 20, along with Baylee Littrell (son of Backstreet Boys star Brian Littrell). The Voice alums Thunderstorm Artis and Victor Solomon also made it, as well as X Factor alum Drew Ryn.
Rounding out the Top 20 are Desmond Roberts, Josh King, Amanda Barise, John Foster, Mattie Pruitt, Olivier Bergeron, Breanna Nix, Isaiah Misailegalu, Gabby Samone, Slater Nalley, Zaylie Windsor, Jamal Roberts, and Ché.
Highlights from Sunday’s performances included Jamal Roberts, who sang “Forever” by Jason Nelson. The judges were on their feet, with Luke Bryan saying he’s “got the magic.” Canaan James Hill was also in his element with a performance of “Better Days” by Le’Andria Delores Johnson. Lionel Richie called it “a performance to be remembered.”

Who Was Eliminated After Hawaii Week?
Unfortunately, four contestants had to be eliminated after their performances in Hawaii, based on America’s vote. Those singers didn’t have the opportunity to perform in the Top 20 during Sunday night’s show.
The eliminated contestants were Kyana Fanene, Grayson Torrence, MKY, and Penny Samar. Viewers should prepare for even more eliminations on Monday night, as the show reveals the results of Sunday’s vote. Six contestants will go home as the Top 14 is revealed.
Sunday night’s episode also featured performances from the show’s judges, as Lionel Richie joined the Top 24 to sing his song “Eternity.” Luke Bryan also took the stage to sing his track “Jesus ‘Bout Me Kids,” while Carrie Underwood closed the show with a performance of “How Great Thou Art.”
