‘American Idol’ Winner Earns First Grammy Nomination

American Idol Season 23 winner Jamal Roberts is officially a Grammy nominee. The singer recently earned his very first nomination in the Best Gospel Performance/Song category, less than six months after winning the show.
American Idol‘s Jamal Roberts Earns Grammy Nomination
In May of this year, Jamal Roberts was named the winner of American Idol Season 23. On Friday, the 28-year-old singer earned his first Grammy nomination. Roberts is nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song for the live version of his song “Still” with Jonathan McReynolds.
Roberts is one of five nominees in the category. He’s up against the track “Do It Again” by Kirk Franklin; “Church” by Tasha Cobbs Leonard and John Legend; “Amen” by Pastor Mike Jr.; and “Come Jesus Come” by CeCe Winans and Shirley Caesar.
American Idol shared the news of Roberts’ nomination on social media, and Roberts himself also made a post about it on Instagram, writing, “God Keeps Showing Out!!!!!!!” American Idol responded, “The first of many more to come.”

Roberts Is Currently on Tour with Brandy & Monica
Earlier this year, following Jamal Roberts’ win on American Idol Season 23, it was announced that he would be joining Brandy and Monica on their “The Boy Is Mine” Tour, named after their iconic 1998 collaboration.
The tour kicked off in October, and it’s currently ongoing, with dates lined up around the United States into December of this year. Other special guests on the tour include Kelly Rowland and Muni Long. Previously, Coco James and Mya also made appearances on the tour.
Roberts’ cover of “Heal” by Tom Odell, which he performed on American Idol, has been a hit following his win, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart. Since the show, the singer has also released the singles “Mississippi” and “Nothing Compares.”
