It’s no secret that 15 time Grammy winner Adele has lost a lot of weight in the past year. She looked noticeably slimmer in a recent Instagram post after a long hiatus. But how exactly did she do it? The singer reportedly followed the sirtfood diet, a diet that allows you to drink red wine and eat chocolate!

The Sirtfood Diet Focuses On Boosting Your Metabolism

Sirtfoods are foods that can activate proteins in your body called sirtuins. These proteins can reduce your stress and stop inflammation. A diet that can decrease your stress? It sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Eating sirtfoods can also boost your metabolism. This is very important since you rely on your metabolism to breathe, digest foods and regulate body temperatures among other things. The sirtfood diet allows you to reduce your calories and also just eat really healthy food.

This diet works in two phases. In the first phase, most of your calories will come from drinking green juice. During each day of phase one, it is recommended that you drink three cups of green juice per day and have one meal. The calorie intake for the first week is about 1,000 calories a day. For phase two, you can have one cup of green juice along with three balanced meals rich in sirtfoods a day. After these three initial weeks, you are still encouraged to eat meals rich in sirtfoods and continue drinking green juice. This way, any weight you lose will not come creeping back upon you.

What Kind of Foods Are Considered SirtFoods?

You are probably wondering which foods are considered sirtfoods. As you would expect, a lot of fruits and vegetables like kale, arugula, onions, strawberries and blueberries are considered sirtfoods. Pretty much anything that you would put into a salad is a sirtfood. You can also incorporate fruits and vegetables into your green juice. A green juice recipe found on the sirtfood website consists of a combo of kale and other leafy greens, parsley, celery, green apple, ginger, lemon juice and matcha. Yes, matcha, the powder that you put into your lattes and frappucinos at Starbucks.

Perhaps the best part about this diet is finding a healthy balance. You can still eat dark chocolate and who doesn’t love chocolate covered strawberries? They are both two huge sirtfoods. Wine and coffee also have high sirtuin activators and are believed to activate your “skinny genes.” So you do not necessarily have to cut all of the fun foods and drinks in your life. You can still have them in moderation.

Exercising Regularly Is An Important Part Of The Sirtfood Diet

Adele has had major weight loss following this diet, but that is only half the process. She also works with a trainer to get in some healthy workouts. Adele also took up pilates to gain more strength and stamina for when she is on stage. She also lifts small free weights.

Adele cut down on drinking alcohol and quit smoking because she knew they are both unhealthy habits. And even though she is following a healthier lifestyle, her attitude isn’t always super enthusiastic to go to the gym. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said “I’m not, like, skipping to the f****** gym. I don’t enjoy it. I do like doing weights. I don’t like looking in the mirror.” She isn’t alone because a lot of other people feel the same way.

Though this diet seems promising, experts warn that not everybody will achieve Adele-like results. It is definitely a hard diet to maintain after the first initial three weeks. But, if a person is dedicated, they will continue to eat foods rich in sirtuins even after that period.
