Tate McRae fans have a lot to say about the singer’s new song “What I Want” with country star Morgan Wallen. The track appears on Wallen’s new album I’m the Problem. Rumors of an upcoming collaboration between the two singers sparked backlash last month.
Tate McRae Fans React to Duet with Morgan Wallen
Last month, news that McRae would be collaborating with Wallen led fans to express their disappointment on social media, as Wallen has been the subject of several controversies over the years. In 2021, he was caught on video using a racial slur, and he was arrested last year for allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar.
Despite the backlash, the pair’s new song “What I Want” was released on Friday as part of Wallen’s new album I’m the Problem. The track is a ballad in which Wallen and McRae bond over experiencing trust issues in romantic relationships.
After the song’s release, McRae’s fans shared their thoughts online. Opinion seems to be mixed, with some fans admitting that they enjoyed the song despite objecting to the collaboration. One user on Reddit called it “a pretty inoffensive, catchy track.”
However, not everyone enjoyed the sound. Others simply refused to listen to the song on principle. Another Reddit user said that they would have “enjoyed it more if he wasn’t the person he is.”

McRae Is Currently on Tour
Earlier this year, McRae released her third studio album, So Close to What — with singles including “It’s OK I’m OK” and “Revolving Door.” The singer is currently performing on her Miss Possessive Tour. This is McRae’s first-ever arena tour.
McRae isn’t the only artist to collaborate with Wallen on his new album. The 37-track project also features duets with artists such as Eric Church, HARDY, ERNEST, and Post Malone. This is Wallen’s fourth studio album.
