5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About ‘America’s Got Talent’ Rock Singer Anica

Anica took to the America’s Got Talent stage and happily surprised everyone when she sang “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin. Now that she’s on to the live shows, it’s about time we know more about her. Here are five things you probably didn’t know about Anica.
1. Anica is a Canadian Realtor
When she first introduced herself to the judges, she mentioned that she was a realtor. But she never mentioned where she does her work. It turns out, she’s a Remax realtor in Moncton, New Brunswick, in Canada. As of August 23, she has six listings on Remax’s website, so it seems like she’s not taking too much time off for AGT. I should’ve taken her saying “eh” at the end of her sentence on stage as a cue that she’s canadian!
2. She’s Really Up and Coming
On TikTok she has 1,197 followers, on Instagram she has 1,472 followers, and on YouTube she has only 156 subscribers. With such a small following, she’s really the biggest rising star this season. I’m sure she’ll end up with plenty more followers after her performance on the live shows this Tuesday.
3. Anica is a Stage Name
It doesn’t seem like she’s been using her stage name Anica for very long. Her name is really Katey Day-Rieck. She also has a page on Facebook named Katey Day-Rieck Videos where updates about her and her music are posted. It seems like she used to have a website named “The 2 Kates,” but it is no longer active.
4. This Isn’t Her First Time On a Talent Show
Anica already competed and won another show. In 2019, she competed in the Karaoke World Championships and she was announced as the winner for Canada. She then went to Japan to compete in a larger portion of the competition. She won second place as a soloist, making her the second best in the world. It turns out that “Piece Of My Heart” was not only her AGT audition song.
5. She has a supportive family
A big thing for this singer is her family. Her TikTok contains multiple videos of her daughter, Jessie, cheering her on. Her family is so supportive that her wife was even the one who applied for her to go on the show. She’s been performing music for more than three decades, so she’s no stranger to the stage. I’m really surprised that Anica hasn’t come to the America’s Got Talent stage sooner with a talent like hers.
