One striking thing of note, (because it’s obvious), is that the contestants on this year’s America’s Got Talent is the number of kids. These children are not just performing, they are moving forward in the contest. Is the show trying to find the next Grace VanderWaal?
There is no denying the fact that this season’s contestants are generally pretty young. We’re talking nine or twelve-years-old young. You have Darci Lynn Farmer, (The ventriloquist singer), Celine Tam, Evie Clair, Angelica Hale, and Angelina Green to name just a few of the ones that have gained traction on the show. For example, three of the five Golden Buzzers during the audition round were children. Celine, Darci Lynne, and Angelica are all moving into the semi-finals and will be competing against each other for a spot in the finals. It is a distinct possibility that the final round will be between two children.
There is no doubt that part of the reason so many child acts were given shots on the show to begin with is that Grace VanderWaal won it all last season. Producers took note of her popularity and continued success after the show’s run. I’ve worked in the TV industry and I can tell you that networks and producers like to go with things they KNOW will work. I have a feeling, depending on how things end up this season, that we’re going to see many more singing children in the next few seasons. It will stay a trend until the audience decides they don’t want any more kid virtuosos. I don’t see that happening soon. America loves singing children. That’s a fact of science.
