‘Walk the Line’ Recap: Will Ella Rothwell Win Season One of the New Show?
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Hospital administrative assistant Ella Rothwell returned to Walk the Line tonight to sing against four new performers for a chance at £500,000. The show, created by Simon Cowell, shows a new group of singers performing each night with one act progressing into the next episode. Ella won the first two episodes, which means she returned tonight for £30,000, or the chance to move forward in the competition and earn the grand prize on Friday.
If Ella chooses to Walk the Line, and she’s won the audience vote, she moves forward into tomorrow night. If she hasn’t won the vote, and she chooses to walk, she leaves the show with nothing. Before the new contestants came out to sing, host Maya Jama asked the judges if they had any advice for the reigning champ.
“Don’t get complacent,” said judge Alesha Dixon. “Come out fighting as if it were the first night.”
The rest of the judges, Gary Barlow, Dawn French, and Craig David, all agreed that she needed to wow the audience to keep up title. On this new show, in addition to giving the performers feedback after they sing, the judges are there to advise the acts on whether they should “take the money and run,” or come back to perform again.
Tonight’s episode of Walk the Line showed four more performers singing as Ella sat alone in the front of the stage on a stool waiting to see if she would be dethroned. After watching the new performers, Ella needed to get up and sing yet again.
Newcomers Daniel Arieleno, Abz Winter, and Lisa-Marie Holmes gave it their all, but they couldn’t kick Ella off her throne. When it came down to it, Raynes, the folk-country band of three from the U.S. and England went up against Ella for the chance to move forward.
Throughout their performance, the members of Raynes played guitar and violin as well as sang their uplifting original song “Come My Way.”
Ella Rothwell Hits the Stage for the Third Night in a Row
For her third performance on Walk the Line, Ella went with a cover of the song “Best of You” by the Foo Fighters. This is the first cover she’s tackled in the competition after performing soulful original songs in her first two appearances on the show.
“Ella you slayed that, you completely made that your own in an incredibly unique way,” said French. “It makes me love you a little bit more each night.”
After hearing the judges feedback, Ella, again, bet on herself and walked the line for a chance to win the grand prize at the end of the week. At the end of her walk, the platform turned gold, meaning the audience voted her through to night four of the series.
“You did it again Ella,” said David. “I feel like you’re a superstar in the making.”
Walk the Line, from producer Simon Cowell, gives singers a chance to win £500,000. The iTV show follows five performers per episode with one winner each night earning the chance to move forward in the competition.
