Carrie Ann Inaba Lore, The Real Reason She’s Receiving Hate from ‘DWTS’ Fans
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Over the years, Carrie Ann Inaba has faced backlash while working as a judge on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Her firm and feisty attitude is part of the reason fans have raised an eyebrow at her commentary.
Carrie Ann Inaba is not new to the world of Dancing With The Stars. She’s acted as part of the panel since the show’s premiere in 2005. Even though Inaba’s experience speaks for itself, fans think that she’s simply an unfair judge.
DWTS Fans Think Carrie Ann Inaba is a Biased Judge
Carrie Ann Inaba has never been a stranger to fan criticism on Dancing With The Stars. Her latest feud included Pretty Little Liars star Chandler Kinney and her partner Brandon Armstrong. The pair performed a Foxtrot to “Too Sweet” by Hozier.
Following the dance, Inaba claimed that Kinney’s foot wasn’t completely on the ground, which isn’t aligned with ballroom standards. Inaba then told Kinney’s partner that she had warned him earlier in the season about the lifts. Now, after the fact, it has been proven that Inaba warned another couple, not Kinney and Armstrong.
Regardless, as per usual, there were many times this season where Inaba was booed by the audience, due to her commentary. Inaba had a similar season in 2023, when she refused to give Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix and her partner Pasha Pashkov a 10.
Inaba explained that Madix’s performance was “lacking: at the time, quickly receiving boos from the audience. She was then slammed online, with many fans believing the pair was “robbed.”
In 2020, the longtime DWTS judge called out Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev for performing a lift during their jive. Chigvintsev, who was disappointed by the comments, previously pointed out that her judging was “a little personal.” Even The Bachelorette alum expressed her frustration for Inaba’s “very hard to understand” judging.
In the past, fans have commented on Inaba, saying that her judging is “more personal and critical as opposed to giving actual feedback to improve. She’s constantly putting people down with harsh comments which are often uncalled for.”
Fans also believe she over scores “for emotional dances or for the character or story of the dance and not scoring the technique.”
Inaba Claims She Receives More Hate Because She’s Female
Amid backfire, Inaba always speaks out. In 2023, during the Madix scoring issue, the DWTS judge clapped back at “outraged” fans who considered her comments unfair.
“I judge what I see from my perspective,” she wrote on Instagram. “If I just did what other people do, I would have zero value as a judge. But as the woman on the panel, I’m constantly made a target of blame and vitriol.”
Inaba in turn claimed that fans were upset with her constantly, due to her gender. She believes this due to the fact that she’s the only woman on the three person panel.
During the 2023 Variety Women Of Reality TV event in Beverly Hills, Inaba stated she needed to “fight harder” to be heard from the panel.
“There have been times when I have almost walked away,” she said. “As the only female judge for most of the seasons, I get a lot more hate than the men do and people doubt what I say.”
“I’m the judge who cries,” she continued. “Yes that’s true, but it’s also because I feel like I have to fight harder for my opinion to be honored.”
It seems that Inaba’s time on Dancing With The Stars may not be up just yet. We won’t know until the show returns in Fall 2025.
