‘The Voice UK’ Recap: Last Week Of Blind Auditions

ITV

Reading Time: 3 minutes

As we move on to week 7 of blind auditions on The Voice UK, the coaches are being even more selective than they were last week, and that’s saying something. Will, Olly, and Tom had only one spot left on their team and Jen had two. That’s what happens when you turn too many times the first couple of weeks. So, now that the teams are set, how’s it looking?

First up was Scarlett Quigley, a young lady with the classic musical theater voice. Those of you who are musical theater nerds know what I’m talking about. She sang Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Phantom of The Opera. She got turns from Will, Jen, and Tom and chose Jennifer because she’s not stupid. That’s the best choice.

Maria LaBelle was next with her rendition of Ghetto Story by Alicia Keys. While she was certainly an able singer, Maria did not impress the coaches who chose not to swivel their chairs. The British version of this show is much more brutal than the touchy-feely American rendition.

It’s a testament to Chantelle Nandi’s talent that she sang Sixpence None The Richer’s Kiss Me and I didn’t want to strangle myself. Will agreed and turned his chair for the young singer from Zimbabwe and rounded out his team.

Hipster brother and sister duo Sand and Stone (Tom & Abi Dixon) sang the classic neo-folk song I Will Wait from Mumford and Sons. They were cute, in the way that the hipster duo singing this same song in any coffeehouse in any major city in the English-speaking world are cute. They got no spins.

Young Harri Oakland is only 19 but he impressed Jennifer with his rendition of James Arthur’s Say You Won’t Let Go. She added him to her team and closed it out. Much like in the American version this past season, Jennifer has the strongest vocal team going into the next round.

Kalon Rae was dressed a bit like Zorro’s waiter brother Steve Zorro. But he’s got an awesome voice and impressed grumpy old Sir Tom Jones with his version of Yazoo’s Only You. I had never heard this song. It’s pretty. That’s it for team Tom.

Lekenah Eccles did the classic anti-loser song TLC’s No Scrubs. Alas, she did not impress Olly who is the only one with a spot left to give.

Sammy J, Navi Chahal, and Aimee Fitzpatrick also didn’t impress Oly. So picky. Finally, he chose Debbie Aramide and the teams are locked. Who is looking the strongest? I would say Will and Jen but all of that can change in the battles round.

So the teams are:

Team Will.i.am : Donel Mangena, Kade Smith, Tai, Mark Asari, Loaded Sista, Anna Willison Holt, Paige Young, Rihanna Abrey, Wesu Wallace, and Chantelle Nandi.

Team Tom: Chloe Jones, Jade Williams, Lucy Milburn, Ruti Olajugbagbe, Simon Davies, Eliza Gutteridge, Saskia Eng, Wayne Ellington, Courtney O’Neil, and Kalon Rae.

Team Olly : Lauren Bannon, RYT, Ivy Paige, Jamie Gray, Chris James, Kirby Frost, Holly Ellison, Shane McCormack, Bailey Nelsen, and Debbie Aramide.

Team Jennifer : Jake Benson, Jason Nicholson-Porter, Belle Voci, Ant & Ox, Gayatri Nair, Ross Anderson, Jilly Riley, Tesni Jones, Scarlett Quigley, and Harri Oakland.
