‘The Masked Singer’ Recap: Judges Save Mantis on Movie Night
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Masked Singer Season 9 returned on Wednesday for Movie Night, as reigning champion Doll took on new competitors Dandelion and Mantis. At the end of the night, Dandelion dethroned Doll to move on, while the panel hit the “Ding Dong, Keep It On” Bell to save Mantis from elimination. Meanwhile, Doll was revealed to be rocker Dee Snider.
The Masked Singer Panel Saves Mantis from Elimination
New competitor Mantis teased that they’ve performed Shakespeare and almost won an Emmy for comedy. For their first performance, Mantis sang “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger and told the panel that they represented a legend, perhaps suggesting they played someone in a biopic.
At the end of the night, Mantis went up against fellow new competitor Dandelion in the Battle Royale. Dandelion shared that they worked with Madonna and Elton John. For their first performance, they sang “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. Jenny McCarthy called them the “new frontrunner.”
For the Battle Royale, Mantis and Dandelion performed “(I’ve Got a) Golden Ticket” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Dandelion was the panel’s choice to move on to next week’s show, meaning Mantis would have to be unmasked.
Guesses about Mantis’ identity included Keanu Reeves, Kevin Bacon, and Dennis Quaid. However, we didn’t find out if any of the panelists were right, because Robin Thicke hit the “Ding Dong, Keep It On” Bell to save Mantis from elimination. They’ll go up against Medusa and Gargoyle for a chance to stay in the competition.

Doll Unmasked as Dee Snider
Last week, Doll beat out the competition during ’80s Night to move on to this week’s show. He performed “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley, but it unfortunately wasn’t enough to earn him the audience’s vote to participate in the Battle Royale.
Before Doll was unmasked, the panel guessed that he might be Gene Simmons, Iggy Pop, or David Lee Roth. However, none of them were correct, as he ended up being revealed as Twisted Sister rocker Dee Snider. As a goodbye to the competition, he performed “We’re Not Gonna Take It” for the crowd.
