The Emmys Feature Tight Competition Between ‘DWTS’ Choreographers
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Dancing With The Stars received five nominations for the 73rd Emmy Awards. DWTS has five of ABC’s 23 nominations in the upcoming Emmy Awards. The long-running show received nominations for hairstyling, makeup, and design/lighting. Meanwhile, Derek Hough and Artem Chigvinstev are both nominees for Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming.
Artem Chigvintsev’s First Nomination
On July 13, nominees for the 73rd Emmy Awards were announced. While we’re happy to see a lot of nominations for Dancing With The Stars, we’re a bit stuck on who we want to win. Long time DWTS veteran Derek Hough is a nominee against first-time nominee Artem Chigvintsev.
We’re very excited about this nomination. He has been dancing on the show since 2014, yet this is his first nomination.
“I’m speechless what an honor to be nominated for an Emmy,” said Chigvintsev on Twitter. “Thank you to @dancingabc for the opportunity to be able to create, dance and do what I love the most and thank you to @kaitlynbristowe for making choreography look so amazing.”
A Tough Competitor
Chigvintsev is in the same category as two-time Emmy winner Derek Hough. Hough is literally two out of six nominees for this award. In the same vein as DWTS, he is also a nominee for the Disney Holiday Singalong.
In the past, he has won outstanding choreography in 2013 and 2015, both for DWTS routines and has had 11 previous nominations.
“WOW! An absolute honor to be nominated for 2 Emmy awards. Last year my goal was to try and bring a little bit of joy, entertainment and creativity to everyone,” said Derek Hough on Instagram. “As always it takes a village to bring these pieces to life. From music, costume, lighting, scheduling, set design etc. Thank you to everyone who was involved.”
It seems to me like Hough may have another Emmy under his belt, it’s just a matter of the academy announcing him as the winner. He dominated this category, and is such a well known name in the dance world, that the possibility of him losing is super low.
Sorry Chigvintsev, you really don’t have a chance here.
On the bright side, his nomination does show that Dancing With The Stars still has great choreographers within the show. As many know, Hough has taken his well-deserved place at the judges’ table, so the odds of him choreographing again are pretty low (but never zero.) This nomination could be a new beginning for Chigvintsev and the future of Dancing With The Stars.
We want to hear what you think on this one. What do you think, who is going to win the Emmy?
