The Voice has the fact that it’s been on the air all of this time. In fact, their last season just ended a few weeks ago. The show is hugely popular and has really great ratings. Not to mention the fact that the artists on The Voice dominated the iTunes charts for weeks. American Idol has more of a challenge. Sure, people loved it back in the day, but it’s been off the air for a few years now. Idol is going to have to rebuild its audience. Also there is no guarantee that old Idol fans will like the new version with Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.
What makes it even more interesting is that Kelly Clarkson, who of course won the first American Idol, is starting her tenure as a judge on The Voice this season. So, the contestant that defined American Idol will now be competing against the show that made her famous in the first place. It will be interesting to see how it goes. Will American Idol be able to recapture the zeitgeist or will The Voice simply steamroll it? We’ll have to wait and see.
