Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently got candid about a botched surgery that led her to depression before. According to her, she thought that this careless medical process will end her celebrity career.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas Says Botched Nose Surgery Caused Her Depression
In her latest appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the Citadel star revealed that she’s undergone a nose surgery. After she won Miss World in 2000, doctors suggested she get a polyp removed from her nose. This has apparently resulted to a faulty facial treatment, one she feared to endanger her career.
“This thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression,” she said.
The actress went on, stating that she initially thought that her screen career was “over before it started.” As per her 2021 memoir Unfinished, Jonas wrote that her doctors accidentally shaved the bridge of her nose as they were removing the polyp.
“Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I didn’t think my sense of self or my self-esteem would ever recover from the blow,” she wrote.
As a consequence of this bad surgery, Chopra was fired from three different films. According to her memoir, she felt like she wasn’t herself anymore and that she felt “devastated and hopeless.”
Her Dad Encouraged Her to Get Corrective Surgery
Reflecting on the bad experience, Jonas recalled the moment that whenever she looked at the mirror, she was seeing a stranger. At the time, she didn’t believe that she would “ever recover from the blow.”
In the same interview, Jonas talked about how she eventually dealt with the problem. She gave credits to her dad for convincing her to undergo surgery once more to correct the fault of the previous one.
“I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you,’” she said.
Jonas stated that her dad held her hands throughout the facial surgery. She also said that he helped her build back her confidence amid the weakening issue.
Decades later, Jonas is starring American action spy thriller television series Citadel. Playing the character of Nadia, she’s paired with Richard Madden who will play as her spy partner and lover.
Jonas is also heading romance-comedy film Love Again. The story of the movie follows two depressed singles who began to hit it off after a text message.
