Nick Cannon‘s youngest son, Zen, passed away from a brain tumor, the talk show host shared today. Cannon tearfully announced that his youngest son lost his battle to brain cancer over the weekend. Through the host’s sadness he was able to celebrate Zen’s life.

Cannon shared that his son had a weird cough when he was a newborn, so he brought him to the doctor to get it checked. During this visit, he and Zen’s mother, Alyssa Scott, found out their son had to have brain surgery to release a build up of fluid caused by a brain tumor.

After the surgery, Zen was able to return to being his happy-go-lucky self, playing with his siblings, according to Cannon. It wasn’t until Thanksgiving that Zen’s health took a turn for the worse.

Cannon shared that the tumor in his son’s head began to grow a lot quicker. At that point, he and Scott knew their time with Zen was limited. Cannon shared that he normally flies back to New York on Sunday mornings, but decided to spend the day in California with his family instead. Cannon and Scott spent quality time with Zen, but unfortunately Sunday was the last time Cannon held his son.

“Even by the time I was in the car headed to the airport I had to turn around. I turned around and not only did we get to see the sunrise, we got to see the sunset too. I didn’t know how I was going to handle today but I just really wanted to grieve with my family. Know people love you,” Cannon shared on his show.

Cannon made sure to let his audience know that although he is mourning, he is in good spirits. He reminded his fans that his heart and faith is currently with the Lord during this hard time. On top of sharing the news about his son, he thanked all of the doctors in Orange County for not only operating on their son, but for teaching Cannon and Scott about their son’s condition.

It’s been reported that Zen was battling Hydrocephalus, a form of brain cancer that is seen from fluid build up in the head. The fluid in Zen’s head had formed a malignant tumor that led to the surgery. It’s been reported that the talk show was scheduled to have two show tapings on Monday that were cancelled and replaced with a pre-taped episode.

“He was the most loving. We called him Z Chilling. He was always smiling. He had the most beautiful spirit,” Cannon said. This episode of The Nick Cannon Show was dedicated to Zen.

I know what they feel. In 1987 my late husband and I lost our 2nd child after only 4 days. We didn’t know that he had until the morning after I gave birth, a hypoplastic left heart. Meaning one side of his heart formed and the other didn’t. He also was born with almost no aorta and no sternum. My love and prayers go out to him and all his family. #unitedinsorrow
