There are big shake-ups happening at The X Factor UK and they haven’t come cheap. Simon Cowell and the rest of the producers are totally retooling the show in order to compete with ratings juggernaut Strictly Come Dancing. That includes a new judge’s panels and even more show production value.
In order to get rid of Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, they had to buy them out of their contract. That was several million right there. Then they needed to bring in some heavy-hitters to replace them as well as Nicole Scherzinger. They hired Robbie Williams, Louis Tomlinson, and Ayda Field which was also really expensive. Add to that the new sets and production and they’ve increased the budget by 20 million.
The…er…20 million dollar question is whether or not it will pay off. The truth is that according to our research The X Factor UK has been on a steady but constant decline for years and I’m not sure if a change in the judge’s panel and some snazzier sets is going to draw the audience back to the show over watching Strictly Come Dancing. We’ll have to see.
