Tell me what you want, what you really, really want. If the answer is a celebratory EP from the Spice Girls, then you’re in luck. The British girl group has delivered an awesome Wannabe25 EP to commemorate the 25th anniversary since releasing their hit single “Wannabe.”

Spice Girls Star Mel B Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of Hit Song ‘Wannabe’

On July 8, 1996, the Spice Girls released “Wannabe” as their debut single in the U.K. It topped the UK Singles Chart for seven weeks before gaining global attention. “Wannabe” is the best-selling single by a girl group ever. Their debut album Spice was so popular, it drew comparisons to the hype surrounding the Beatles. Just like that, the Spice Girls started a girl group revolution.

After three studio albums, 11 singles, and over 90 million records sold, the group went on hiatus in 2000. They reunited for a tour in 2007 with tickets selling out in under a minute for the first London tour date. They went on another tour in 2019 without Victoria Beckham. They created nostalgia for longtime fans who missed their spunky live performances.

Former AGT judge Mel B put out two solo albums in between taking over the world with the Spice Girls. She even went to compete on Dancing with the Stars and served as a judge on The X Factor Australia and The X Factor UK. This was all before competing on The Masked Singer UK this year. Mel teased that the Spice Girls will be making a comeback in a post to mark the 25th anniversary of “Wannabe.”

“Ahhh finally peeps!!!! It’s been a very VERY emotional day,but we WILL be back and that’s my”scary”promise to you all,” she wrote on Instagram.

Melanie C Also Hopes That the Group Gets Back Together Soon

The new Wannabe25 EP features an unreleased demo written in 1995 called “Feed Your Love.” The original single “Wannabe” is also on the EP along with a remix by Junior Vasquez and another demo version. The vinyl and cassette version was supposed to be released on July 23. Due to the pandemic, the Wannabe25 limited edition picture disc and cassette release was pushed back to August 27.

“We are blessed to be Spice Girls but we are honoured to have the best fans in the world,” Mel wrote in another post on Instagram. “We wouldn’t be anywhere without you and can’t thank you enough for all the love we’ve had from all of you for two and a half decades.”

Wannabe25 is now available on all streaming platforms. It is a very emotional day for all of the group members and fans alike. Melanie C, otherwise known as “Sporty Spice,” wrote that she “can’t wait until we Zig a zig ahh again” on Instagram. The Asia’s Got Talent judge became notoriously known for doing backflips during the group’s live performances. Fans hope to see more of her backflipping on stage sometime again in the future. All of the group members dropping reunion hints is a great start.
