‘X Factor’ Singer’s Emotional Audition Makes Mel B Cry [VIDEO]

Some auditions on shows like The X Factor are so powerful that the judges can’t hide their tears. That was the case in 2014 when Jay James auditioned for the UK version of the show.
Jay’s emotional performance brought Mel B to tears. Check it out in the video below, and read on to see what Mel and the other judges had to so say about Jay’s passionate audition.
Jay James Auditions For ‘X Factor UK’
Jay James was 30 years old when he auditioned for The X Factor UK. He shared that he had been in the Navy, but was injured and put on sick leave. During that time, he started playing guitar and singing. He said he “used it as a bit of a focus.”

He admitted that he’s “not very good” at guitar, which is why he didn’t bring it to his audition. Jay also shared that he had a nine-month-old daughter, and said being on the show was “everything” to him.
Jay went on to sing “Say Something” by A Great Big World. He showed incredible emotion in his voice, and the judges were clearly affected by the performance. Jay himself looked to have tears in his eyes when he finished the song and Simon Cowell called him “amazing.”

Fellow judge Cheryl agreed that it was quite a feat to make Mel cry. Louis Walsh said it was the “first time” it happened. Jay was overcome by the judges’ positive comments about his performance.
Jay made it to the live shows, but was eliminated in Week 6, coming in eighth place. Earlier this year, Jay joined UK singing group The Overtones as their newest member. He and his partner Victoria have two kids, Nova and Franklin.
