The second episode of Canada’s Got Talent once again featured a judge hitting the honorary Golden Buzzer for an act. This time around comedian Lilly Singh hit the buzzer for Vancouver based dance crew, GRVMNT.

This dance group comprised of people in their teens and early twenties focuses on a high impact-hard hitting form of hip hop. Even though members are spread out in age, most of them have danced together since their youth. Their team captain, Jezabelle, described their relationship as family-like and noted that they take pride in their on stage chemistry. Ahead of the compeition they had been rehearsing wherever they could, including outdoors. Winning the series would give them the funds to rent their own studio.

GRVMNT Impresses Judges With Their Polished Hip Hop Moves

When asked what makes their dance group different, GRVMNT explained that they want to make hip hop the main event as opposed to a side act. The group’s audition movements were polished and in sync during their audition. It was obvious that they had rehearsed this act for a long time before this. Every new sequence got the audience cheering. At the end of their audition, Howie Mandel jumped out of his seat and yelled “Wow” for the group.

GRVMNT got a well deserved standing ovation from the four judges. Mandel stated that their act has the possibility to win the season as a whole. Trish Stratus and Kardinal Offishall both gave the dancers positive notes as well. When it was Singh’s turn to give feedback, she asked the group what it would mean to win the competition.

“One of the reasons I said yes to being a judge here is, I thought I’m going to have the honor of inviting people into the building so people don’t have to dance on the concrete anymore,” Singh said before hitting the golden buzzer. “I want to find a group of people that wants it so bad and I want to get rid of every obstacle in their way. I want you to go all the way and I’ve gotta do it.”

The group members were in tears on stage following Singh’s Golden Buzzer. The judge told them to celebrate the moment, then prove what they have in the semi finals. GRVMNT thanked Singh stating that they couldn’t put their feelings into words.

What Did This Dance Group Do Before CGT?

It seems like Canada’s Got Talent wasn’t this dance groups television debut. Ahead of this brand new series, GRVMNT competed on NBC’s World of Dance seasons two and four. At the time of that show, they had been mentored and coached by Cezar Tantoco and Mark Dogillo. Both mentors seem to work at Fresh Groove Productions, a dance studio noted as Canada’s No. 1 competitive dance studio.

On top of World of Dance GRVMNT has competed in the Hip Hop International competition. They brought home the prize of 2nd place in 2021’s competition. According to GRVMNT’s instagram story highlights, their group currently is comprised of 17 members. They currently have over 10,800 followers on Instagram, 654 followers on TikTok, and 859 likes on Facebook. It appears that this group doesn’t have YouTube channel of their own at this time.

GRVMNT is absolutely awesome in any way. I feel that if any act is going to defeat Shea and win the title, GRVMNT is likely the best bet! Shea and GRVMNT could be the greatest and closest final 2 in got talent history, fingers crossed!
