“I’m gonna say this, in probably behalf of all Asian Americans out there, that you’re probably one of the biggest idols for all of us,” Luan told Jeong during his appearance on Wednesday’s show.
Jeong told him he was “too kind,” adding, “If it wasn’t for Margaret Cho, I wouldn’t be here … Margaret’s opening act, when I was a student at Duke, and as an Asian American, just so proud to be with you and with Margaret tonight.”
Margaret applauded with the audience after the sweet moment, saying she was “so proud.”
Jeong previously shared that opening for Cho when he was a medical student inspired him to pursue comedy full-time. The pair has starred together in the show Dr. Ken and the Netflix animated movie Over the Moon.

Jeong Didn’t Recognize Cho on ‘The Masked Singer’
Cho appeared as Poodle during Season 1 of The Masked Singer in 2019. As a judge on the show, Jeong failed to recognize his friend under the mask. His final guess was Melissa Rivers, so he was shocked to discover it was Cho.
Jeong later told Kelly Clarkson that this was his “favorite reveal” of the show, calling Cho “one of my best friends in the whole wide world.” He was embarrassed not to have recognized her.
“I remember that moment and the look on my face was pure embarrassment, because I knew I would not be able to live that down for the rest of my life. And I haven’t,” he said. “She even said on the show and off the air, ‘Out of all people, I would have imagined it would be you guessing it.'”
