Katy Perry Has Seemingly Found Her Newest Bestie, Queer Icon Fletcher

Pop superstar Katy Perry is definitely not closed off from creating bonds with new friends. The “Firework” hitmaker was recently spotted hanging out with “Becky’s So Hot” singer Fletcher — something that fans didn’t exactly expect.

In Fletcher’s recent Instagram post, she posted a series of snaps and videos of her mingling with friends during Beyonce’s Los Angeles concert. The first photo showed off an intimate picture of her with Perry, them acting as of they’re about to kiss each other. In another snap, the two can be seen posing for a pic as they retouch in the restroom.
“Girls run my world,” Fletcher wrote in the caption.
The post quickly gained attention from both of their fans. Clearly, they are totally hyped by the bestie energy that the duo is giving in their photos. Some, however, are joking that Fletcher posted the photos to give fans some queer content.
“Fletcher and Katy Perry pictured together was deffo not on my 2023 bingo card,” one fan wrote.
“Fletcher and OG I kissed a girl, please this is all the gay content I need,” another fan wrote.
Back in March 2017, Fletcher told Billboard that she identifies as queer. Nonetheless, the singer is not the type to put a label on herself, asserting that “gender is not black and white.” In 2021, she opened up about her sexuality on Instagram.
“A big part of my healing journey has been letting go of identities,” she wrote. “Things I used to cling to so hard. ‘I am this’ or ‘I am that.’ Holding on so tightly to specific narratives keeps us in a perpetual state of suffering.”
Fans React to Perry Wearing a “The Year of The Lesbian” Shirt
After seeing the concert pics, fans are definitely loving Fletcher and Perry’s connection. The hype further went up when photos of them hiking surfaced on Twitter. The two came with friends to celebrate Lauren Glucksman’s birthday.
Fans didn’t hesitate to point out the shirt Perry wore during the hike, which reads “The Year of The Lesbian.” Such outfit has apparently given rise to speculations about Perry’s sexuality.
“I was so excited when I saw this last night I couldn’t process 1) Katy wearing the year of the lesbian shirt fully ended me 2) her and fletcher hanging out *heavy breathing*,” one fan wrote.
“Welcome to the lesbian community Katy,” another fan wrote.
In 2017, Perry admitted that she was “curious,” recognizing sexuality is a spectrum of sorts. In turn, her 2008 hit “I Kissed A Girl” “started a conversation,” and she knew that.
“I’m just a singer-songwriter honestly,” she said. “I speak my truths and I paint my fantasies into these bite-sized pop songs. For instance, ‘I kissed a girl and I liked it.. Truth be told … I did more than that!”
Regardless, assuming Perry’s sexuality based on her shirt and artistic expression is inappropriate. Fans should not “out” Perry based on her outfits and set of friends.
