Jennifer Hudson Opens Up About Her Relationship with Common

Jennifer Hudson recently opened up about her relationship with rapper and actor Common while attending the 2025 Daytime Emmys. The couple officially confirmed their romance nearly two years ago.
Jennifer Hudson Talks Relationship with Common
Hudson was nominated for Daytime Talk Series Host and Daytime Talk Series for her eponymous talk show at this year’s Daytime Emmys, which took place on October 17. The former American Idol star spoke to E! News on the red carpet at the event.
“Our Chicago roots is a huge part of it,” Hudson said of what makes her relationship with Common work. “We’re just similar souls and spirits. He’s such a beautiful person, and I just respect him for just who he is, how he is.”
Hudson went on to call Common “a blessing” and “a light.” When asked if her 16-year-old son David might work on music with Common at some point, the singer said, “To be continued. Who knows? But they’re both very musical.”
During the awards, Hudson unfortunately lost to Drew Barrymore in the Daytime Talk Series Host category, and Live With Kelly and Mark in the Daytime Talk Series category.

The Couple Confirmed Their Romance Last Year
Jennifer Hudson and Common were first linked romantically in 2022, when they worked together on a film called Breathe. In January 2024, Common was a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where the couple confirmed their relationship.
At the time, Common called his partner “one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life,” while Hudson said she was “very happy.” Several months later, Common returned to the show and discussed the possibility of marriage.
“If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson,” he said of any future matrimony.
Also last year, Hudson released a holiday album called The Gift of Love. Common is featured on the project, collaborating with Hudson on the song “Almost Christmas.”
