Iman Shumpert Lifts Dance Partner Like a Prop Off the Ballroom Floor

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Professional basketball player Iman Shumpert is proving to be a force to be reckoned with this season on Dancing with the Stars. For his Disney Villains night routine, Shumpert danced as Jafar from Aladdin while partner Daniella Karagach was his pet parrot Iago.
Even more than usual, this entire routine accentuated the size difference between Iman and Daniella. During the final moments of the routine Iman, 6’5″, lifted Daniella, 5’7″, like she was a napkin dropped on the floor.
The basketball star rubbed his hands before picking her up as though she were absolutely weightless and you could hear fans across America scream in unison. The thirst was real watching this final move of the dance.
While Iman’s strength was highlighted here, I don’t want to undersell pro Daniella– how did she stay so straight and firm during that final lift? The whole dance featured acrobatic lifts that looks completely effortless for these two.
Ever humble, when asked about their preparation, Iman stated they were nervous at first, but it turned out Daniella is “lighter than we thought.” Yeah ok.
Iman Shumpert Continues to Awe on DWTS
During Disney Heroes night, Iman dedicated his performance to his young daughters. He and Daniella performed a foxtrot to Frozen‘s “Let it Go” and his six-year-old literally had to be kept off the dance floor.
The pair scored a 30 out of 40 during Heroes night and 33 out of 40 during Villains night totaling 63. Last night, the two earned their first 9 of the season, quickly followed by tonight’s score, their highest of the season.
Continuing to flaunt his personality and rely on his (literal) strength may just push Iman and Daniella all the way into this season’s finals. Voting is now open and will close during the episode’s final commercial break.
