Friday’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Semifinal Had Some Surprising Results…Plus Who is the Series 13 Wildcard?

The results are in, and we have our last THREE 2019 finalists! The Britain’s Got Talent Semifinal on Friday had a lot of action. Let’s unpack it all!

Friday’s acts were Gonzo, X, Jacob Jones, Fabulous Sisters, Leanne Mya, Barbara Nice, Libby and Charlie, and Jonathan Goodwin. We had several contenders pegged as potentially making it through this episode. One act we weren’t expecting to see in the top three was dance duo Libby and Charlie. This wasn’t because their performance was bad, we just thought the audience might favor the spectacle and/or fanfare of some of the others. Plus, dance acts haven’t fared well in the votes this season. ITV also cut out in certain areas while they were on so not everyone was able to watch them live. But it was certainly a pleasant surprise for us to see these underdogs whose act was a last-minute replacement prove to be such a hit with the audience!

X and Jonathan Goodwin joined them in the top three. Then, the winner of the episode was revealed to be…X! We were a little nervous for X since the bar was high for magic – especially after Thursday’s show. Also, they performed very early in the show. (Being the second act up is a notoriously bad spot on any reality talent competition. This was actually the only time this week that anyone who was among first three to perform in their episode even made the top three.) But it was great to see them pull out this victory!

At the end of the results show, it was down to Libby and Charlie versus Jonathan for the judges’s vote. David chose Jonathan and Alesha followed suit. Amanda cast her vote for Libby and Charlie, and finally Simon was up. For the second day in a row, he said he was deciding to go with what the public wanted and therefore voted for Libby and Charlie. They seriously need to go back to having Simon vote first next season because he almost always does this! It even happens on the American version of the show.

It was then revealed that the second-most voted act of the night was…Jonathan Goodwin! It’s rare for a danger act making the Got Talent finals, so it’ll be so cool to see Jonathan representing the genre there on Sunday!

But as it turns out, that wasn’t the end for Libby and Charlie after all! BGT announced today that they have been made the Series 13 wildcard! This was surprising to some, but it makes a lot of sense since the show usually chooses the wildcard from the pool of acts who placed third in their semi-final. Of those, four were magic acts, which we already have four of in the finale. On the other hand, Libby and Charlie are dancers, a genre not represented in the Series 13 finals until now. Congratulations to them!

That’s it for Friday’s Britain’s Got Talent Semifinal! We’ll be back for the grand finale on Sunday! But in the meantime, check out this fun medley from the upcoming West End Revival cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
