Derek Hough Reveals Which Star Would Get Him Dancing Again on ‘DWTS’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week to compare his time on the panel to his time as a professional dancer on the series.
Hough seems pretty happy to sit behind the judges’ table, but he did reveal the one celebrity who might get him back on the floor for another season. Now we want it to actually happen.
Derek Hough Wants to Dance with Celine Dion
Hough was a pro dancer on Dancing with the Stars for nine years, winning the show six times. Last year, he replaced longtime judge Len Goodman, who will return in the upcoming season — making it a four-person panel.
Hough said dancing is much harder than judging, but he might be tempted to return to the dance floor if he got “the right partner.” That prompted Clarkson to ask who the right partner would be. Hough said Celine Dion would be the ultimate choice.

He went on to tell the story of the first time he met the iconic singer. She was performing on DWTS and recognized him. Hough was so nervous that the first thing he said was, “I’m holding shoes.” This inspired Dion to break into song about him holding shoes.
Hough later met her again, and she revealed that she loves to dance after her shows. Clarkson said that “sounds exhausting after a day of work.” She wondered if Dion is tired, since she “has two sets of lungs when she sings.”
When Is ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Returning?
Dancing with the Stars has been renewed for Season 30 on ABC, although very little is known about the upcoming season. Tyra Banks will return as host, and Goodman will be back on the judging panel. The cast has yet to be announced.
“I’m curious about what we’re going to do for Season 30 because it’s such a huge milestone. I’m curious to know what’s the plan,” Hough said in an interview earlier this year. “Is it going to be just like, ‘We’re going to approach this like any other season?’ Or is it going to be sort of a tribute? Who knows? I don’t know.”
We expect to find out which stars and pro dancers will appear sometime this summer before the show premieres in the fall. It might be a pipe dream, but we’re hoping Dion appears on the list.
