‘Barbie Girl’ Lip-Sync Steals the Spotlight After a Queen Drops Out of ‘Drag Race’
Reading Time: 4 minutes
This week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars episode quite literally became the Silky Nutmeg Ganache Show. RuPaul surprised the remaining four queens by telling them about the game within a game, RuPaul’s Secret RuDemption Lip-Sync Smackdown. This competition was happening in secret the entire time.
The eliminated RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars queens competed against each other for a chance to earn their way back into the competition. Honestly, this was a bit disappointing. The stakes would’ve been way higher if the eliminated queens lip-synced against the Top 4 like they usually do. Silky pretty much dominated each performance up until the very end.
Silky Nutmeg Ganache Owns Lip-Sync Smackdown Episode
The cast wasn’t really full of lip-sync assassins on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars this year. It became obvious very quickly how this smackdown was going to go. Jiggly Caliente and Serena ChaCha faced off first to “Free Your Mind” by En Vogue. Walking to the back of the stage before the hook of the song never works. Why do queens still do it on this show?
Serena was doomed the second she strutted to the back of the stage. RuPaul has a soft spot for Jiggly and chose her as the winner. Everything changed when Silky hit the stage to face off against Jiggly to “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. Silky literally pulled a whole mini bar out of her bra during this performance.
Silky even did a Fortnite dance towards the end of the song. Normally, doing things during the performance to distract from the actual lip-syncing doesn’t work. Silky’s drink was the equivalent to Valentina’s mask in Season 9, but still, Silky was chosen as the winner. She beat both Yara Sofia and Scarlet Envy.
A’keria C. Davenport Declines Second Chance in the Competition
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars fans could not wait to see Silky face off against her good friend A’keria C. Davenport. To our surprise, A’keria turned down the opportunity to return for RuDemption. She basically said she didn’t want her world shattered again. She is proud of what she did on the show. Silky won by default but decided to lip-sync by herself to “Barbie Girl.”
She removed her green coat to reveal a sparkly outfit and wig on one side and a beard and sweatsuit on the other side. Silky lip-synched both parts of the song, changing her camera angle for each. Never has a solo lip-sync happened like this in the history of the franchise. It was purely iconic.
Jan Was Totally Robbed Again
Jan has honestly been a bit of a mixed bag any time we’ve seen her lip-sync in the past. She’s a theater queen that struggles a little in high-pressure situations. When it came time to face off against Silky on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, Jan absolutely turned it out. “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar is the perfect lip-sync song.
Jan incoporated a wig reveal into her performance and slid across the stage. She took out a few of the stage lights in the process. After all of the times she has been robbed on this show, breaking the stage lights is warranted. Silky brought out the props once again and smashed a guitar. Jan joined in playing an air guitar in a very rockstar moment.
Silky won again! This lip-sync should have ended in a double shantay at least. Jan was so fiery and more energetic than we have seen her this entire season. It looked like Silky didn’t know half of the words to the song. Twitter loves to joke that RuPaul has a personal vendetta against Jan. The outcome of this lip-sync is adding fuel to the fire.
Who is Returning to the Competition?
Pandora Boxx’s lip-sync was pretty rough but it made way for the main event. Eureka O’Hara was the last queen to be eliminated and is the only contestant standing in Silky’s way to re-enter the competition. They performed “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson.
Silky had a bit of a malfunction with her costume reveal. Eureka’s passion was at the forefront of their performance and RuPaul definitely noticed. The episode left off on a cliffhanger but we expected nothing less. Eureka should be declared the winner of this lip-sync. Silky killed every single performance except for this one. Will Ru let them both come back to the competition? Anything can happen on this show.
Who do you think will rejoin Ra’Jah O’Hara, Trinity K. Bonet, Ginger Minj, and Kylie Sonique Love on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars?
