‘American Idol’ Premiere Gets Solid Ratings
Reading Time: 1 minutes
So, the numbers are trickling in and it seems that it’s good news in general for the American Idol premiere. They won the night on Sunday in the ratings showing that there is still a lot of people interested in the show. What we’ll have to see is how it does tonight against The Voice.
American Idol received a 2.3 share in the under 50 demo, which equates to about 10.3 million viewers. That’s pretty solid, though it ranks a little lower than the 10.8 million that tuned in to watch the premiere of The Voice…which might not bode well for Idol. Also this is the lowest premiere in the history of the show. That’s to be expected though as Idol tries to win back its old audience and attract new viewers. Changing people’s watching habits takes time.
It’s not a bad share by a long shot and has been the best that ABC has gotten all season. That at least justifies the millions that ABC has invested in the show. After all, it’s all about selling those precious advertising dollars. As I said, the real test comes tonight when it goes up against the wildly popular The Voice. We’ll see on Tuesday who wins the night.
