‘Alter Ego’ Recap: The Judges Regret Their Decision to Eliminate Singer
Reading Time: 3 minutes
On Wednesday night, FOX’s new singing competition Alter Ego returned for another night of new performances. The series, hosted by Rocsi Diaz, uses modern motion-capture technology to put a totally new spin on the classic talent show format.
The show’s contestants design their own avatar, or “Alter Ego.” They control the avatar’s movements from backstage while they perform. The winner of this season will receive $100,000, as well as the mentorship of the show’s celebrity judges — Alanis Morissette, Grimes, Nick Lachey, and Will.i.am.
Tonight, the avatars showed off some new tricks, including shooting lasers out of their eyes and hearts out of their chests. The show was full of incredible performances, including one from eliminated singer The Dawn Majesty, aka Kaleia Ayelett. Even the judges seemed to think they made a mistake by sending her home.
The Dawn Majesty Opens the Show in Royal Fashion
The first performance of the night came from The Dawn Majesty, aka Kaleia Ayelett, who shared that she put off a career in music in favor of her marriage. She’s now getting a divorce and pursuing her dreams as a singer. The Dawn Majesty performed “Confident” by Demi Lovato.
Dawn’s performance definitely lived up to her name, as well as the title of her chosen song. Judge Nick Lachey called her “Your Majesty,” and Will.i.am raved about the shocking moment when she shot lasers out of her eyes toward the audience. These avatars can really do anything!
Because she was the first singer to perform, she was also the first person on the diamond, which determines which Alter Ego contestant will be sent straight to the next round. She was quickly dethroned by Kingston Sol, aka James Paek, who entertained the judges with his booty shakes and CGI hearts, as well as his soulful performance of “Tennessee Whiskey.”

Former ‘The Voice’ Singer Nevaeh King Gets a Second Chance
Nevaeh King, aka Jay Miah, previously auditioned for The Voice, but they didn’t turn any of the coaches’ chairs. Now they’re getting another chance on Alter Ego, as they shared that their avatar represents what they “see in the mirror.” Nevaeh delivered a stellar performance of “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.
Nevaeh earned a standing ovation from the audience, and the judges voted to put them on the diamond. However, they were later dethroned by St. Luna, aka Sarah Isen, who delivered a sultry performance of “Back to Black” by Amy Winehouse to close the show.
Who Was Eliminated During Tonight’s Show?
St. Luna finished the night on the coveted diamond, so she went straight to the next round thanks to the judges. The Alter Ego audience had the opportunity to save two contestants from elimination during Wednesday’s episode, while the judges could save one.
Nevaeh King and Kingston Sol were chosen by the audience to move on, while the judges chose to save Night Journey. That means that The Dawn Majesty, aka Kaleia Ayelett, was eliminated, despite delivering a knockout performance to kick off the show.
For her farewell performance, Kaleia sang “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. The judges gave her a standing ovation, and they actually expressed regret about sending her home, with Alanis Morissette saying “there’s a special place in hell for judges like us.” Will.i.am made sure to point out that he voted for her.
Do you think the Alter Ego judges made a mistake by sending The Dawn Majesty home? Let us know in the comments.
She was absolutely amazing and was robbed of her chance! I hope Kaleia gets the big break she deserves! BIG mistake judges!
Yes, yes and yes!!!!!
The Dawn Magesty going home was a huge mistake. I hope it gets corrected either with a second chance or getting to be mentored anyway.
They f@&ked up BIG TIME!!!
I was shocked they eliminated The Dawn Majesty. She was fantastic and deserved to stay for sure.
This is the second time the judges have messed up. Go by the talent presented, not who would make a better pop star, or trying to guest the person’s age. The judges need to get it right or you will loose your audience.
