‘AGT’ Fans Think Howie Mandel Wasted His Golden Buzzer This Season

On Tuesday night, America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel hit the Golden Buzzer for a dance group called Murmuration. Some fans think he wasted the honor, which sends an act straight to the live shows.
Fans Criticize Howie Mandel for AGT Golden Buzzer Pick
For their audition, Murmuration’s 65 members took the stage to perform blindfolded. They created shapes and movement with their arms while staying in sync and keeping up with the music. Mandel loved the performance and hit the Golden Buzzer.
While some fans agreed with Mandel’s choice, others expressed their disappointment over it. One Twitter user wrote, “Well that was a waste of a golden buzzer… it was cool, but not worth it at all.” Another user argued, “Not golden buzzer worthy in my opinion.”
Other fans have a problem with so many group acts receiving the Golden Buzzer. So far this season, the honor has also gone to Mzansi Youth Choir and Atlanta Drum Academy. One user wrote, “Please stop with the groups getting golden buzzers. Stop!”

Why Did Mandel Choose to Honor This Group?
One Twitter user wrote that they were surprised by Mandel’s choice to give Murmuration the Golden Buzzer, since he “has not always been a fan of ‘dance’ groups.” And it’s true that Mandel has never given the honor to a dance group in the past.
Something that might have changed Mandel’s mind about dance groups is the fact that the most recent season of Canada’s Got Talent featured several acts of that kind. Two of those groups — Conversion and The Cast — earned Golden Buzzers. Conversion won the show, and The Cast came in second place.
Mandel sits on the CGT panel as well, so he saw what those types of groups can do. Dance acts are also having a moment on other Got Talent shows. Last season, The Mayyas won Season 18 of AGT. Sofia Vergara even brought them up as a comparison when sharing her thoughts on Murmuration’s audition.
