Dancers Have Taken ‘Got Talent’ By Storm, What’s The Pull? Why Do They Keep Winning?
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The talent of dance is clearly in it’s Got Talent golden era. In recent years, it’s felt as if more dancers than ever are beginning to seek a Got Talent stage to show off their skills. Where’s this influx coming from? Does the public really just love dance? Let’s look into it.
More and More Dancers Are Coming to The Got Talent Stage, Why?
Since The Mayyas won AGT season 17, it’s seems like there have been so many winning acts that have featured some type of dance. Following their win came Conversion’s Canada’s Got Talent win, as well as Stefanny and Yeremy’s recent Spain’s Got Talent All-Stars win. In addition, I’d even include AGT All-Stars winner, Aidan Bryant. Although his act was aerialism, it contains mild aspects of choreography.
This isn’t the first time it’s felt like a skill has appeared in large quantities on stage. The biggest, was after Grace Vanderwaal’s historic AGT 2016 win. In the following season, a variety of young children singers came to the stage. Ultimately, the finale featured young singers, Angelica Hale, Evie Clair, and even Darci Lynne Farmer. Although Darci Lynne Farmer is technically a ventriloquist she, like Aidan Bryant, has certain aspects of the previous winner’s act within her act.
We can even see this trend in the newest season of AGT. To this point, we’ve seen Lambros Garcia and Avantgardey, but there’s a ton of other rumored dancers coming to the stage this season, like The Parent Jam, Donovyn Diaz, The Rybka Twins, The Zoo, and more.
Got Talent Gives Dancers a Stage to Perform on
I feel like the Got Talent stage has seen so many dancers, due to the cancellation of NBC hit series, World of Dance. For those who may not remember, this show used to be on after AGT from 2017 to 2020. Aside from its predecessor America’s Best Dance Crew, World of Dance was one of the only shows on TV that gave a place for dance groups, trios, duos, and more.
In current day, we have Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, but it’s not the same. To join Dancing With the Stars as a professional, many of the dancers had previously competed on So You Think You Can Dance. Although So You Think You Can Dance does accept duos, contestants are ultimately competing solo throughout the competition. It’s also important to note that So You Think You Can Dance is currently in a huge gray area on FOX. After Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss‘s unexpected passing, the show has yet to be renewed for the next season.
Therefore, right now, there’s not much of a TV platform (at least in America) for dancers. This most likely is the reason why so many dancers, group or solo, are coming to the Got Talent stage.
