This ‘American Idol’ Alum’s Newborn Baby Just Tested Positive For COVID-19

Former American Idol star Quigley Goode has shared that her newborn son Max tested positive for COVID-19. Quigley, who competed on the show in 2009, posted details on her Instagram account.

Quigley’s real name is Casey Goode, but American Idol fans might know her better as Casey Carlson. The singer gave birth to her son, Maximilian, on September 22. This past Saturday, Quigley and her husband Alex rushed him to the ER when he ran a fever.
“We had confirmation that he was exposed from direct contact with a medical professional who had cared for him earlier in the week,” Quigley wrote on Instagram. “This has been a total shock to us.”

Quigley said she’s quarantining with Max in the PICU and being treated as if she’s been exposed and is “likely positive,” although she said she isn’t showing symptoms. The new mom posted about Max’s complicated birth last month.
Quigley went into labor at 37 weeks, and found out she had a condition called cholestasis. She had planned to give birth at home, but when the baby’s movements stopped, she went to the hospital, where she found out she had preeclampsia. After 12 hours of labor, the baby’s heart rate dropped, and the doctor “immediately had to vaccum [sic] him out.” Max spent eight days in the NICU before going home.

Quigley competed on Season 8 of American Idol in 2009 as Casey Carlson. She made it to the Top 36, but her performance of “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” didn’t impress the judges.

“Everything about that was wrong,” Kara DioGuardi said. Simon Cowell, meanwhile, said it was “atrocious,” comparing it to “karaoke.” Last year, Quigley posted about the experience on Instagram, writing that she was “heart broken and humiliated.” She said it “took years before I was able to perform again.”
“I don’t need success or fame or a stage to WRITE,” Quigley said of her new “purpose,” adding, “My message is and always has been to lead with LOVE and empower women, and now INSTAGRAM is my stage. I couldn’t feel more full looking back on how far I’ve come in ten years.”
Quigley’s friends and followers have been sending their love and thoughts to her and Max while they’re in the hospital. Her husband Alex posted on his own account on Sunday that Max’s fever had come down, but he was put on oxygen as a precaution.
