WATCH Sarcastic ‘American Idol’ Contestant Get On The Judges’ Last Nerve
Some contestants on shows like American Idol just can’t seem to get along with the judges. Often, they’re angry for being rejected. But Andrew Fenlon got off on the wrong foot before he even started singing.
Andrew had a sarcastic attitude that annoyed Simon Cowell, but he really bothered fellow judge Kara DioGuardi. She told him exactly how she felt about him after he performed.
Andrew Fenlon Auditions For ‘American Idol’
Andrew wasn’t happy about having to wait for hours before he could go in to audition for the judges. His annoyance translated into a bad attitude when he walked in to perform.
When Simon asked why he was there, he replied, “I’m here auditioning for American Idol. Should be fairly obvious.” He then said Simon’s questions weren’t interesting, prompting the judge to call him a “smartass.”
He went on to announce that he would be singing “House of the Rising Sun,” asking Simon if he’d heart of it. “Andrew, you are really pushing this,” Simon warned him. So Andrew stopped talking and sang the song.
Afterward, Kara pointed out that he seemed “angry” and “on edge.” When he said he didn’t like waiting, she went off on him, saying he had a “bad attitude,” and adding, “I am now angry at you, who I don’t like at all.” She later said he needed a spanking.
Andrew said he was “trying to seem confident,” but Victoria Beckham said he seemed “arrogant” instead, saying he doesn’t “have the goods to back it up.” Three of the judges said no, but Simon shared that he “would have said yes,” saying Andrew grew on him.
What Happened To Andrew After The Show?
“Originally, I went in there as a good guy,” Andrew told local news after his audition aired, “but I just really got bent out of shape because of the psychological abuse that I was undergoing with waiting for so long in conjunction with them telling me that I was about to be on TV in front of 30 million people.”
He admitted that he was “a little bit confrontational,” and said the judges were too, adding, “But I knew that was the nature of this program, and I was not afraid to face the consequences.”
So what’s Andrew up to now? Based on his Instagram, he spends his time doing graphic design, but he’s still interested in music as well. He seems to have a sense of humor about his Idol audition, since he posted a throwback clip of it in 2017, adding, “not me diff guy.”
