‘The Voice’ Recap: Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani Battle It Out
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Voice Season 22 returned on Monday night, as Blind Auditions continued and the coaches added to their teams. The theme of this episode seemed to be the rivalry between married coaches Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
Shelton teased at the start of the episode that he was the only coach who hadn’t used his block yet. Sure enough, he used it on Stefani later in the show. But Stefani also earned a couple of artists that Shelton wanted during the episode.

The episode opened with a performance from 18-year-old Kique, who sang “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston. Despite being from Miami and having Cuban heritage, Camila Cabello didn’t turn for him. It came down to just Shelton and Stefani.
Even though she pronounced his name incorrectly at one point, Kique chose to join Team Gwen. Later in the show, 17-year-old Daysia also turned both Shelton and Stefani’s chairs by singing “Crazy” by Patsy Cline. Once again, the couple battled it out.
“Let’s see what fighting looks like in our marriage,” Stefani told Shelton as they competed to get Daysia on their teams. Shelton said it was “awkward to fight with her.” In the end, Daysia also chose to join Team Gwen, prompting Shelton to call his wife “the one to beat.”

Shelton Blocks Stefani to Get Ansley Burns on His Team
Shelton got revenge on Stefani later in the episode as Ansley Burns took the stage. The 15-year-old previously competed on Season 14 of America’s Got Talent when she was 12 years old, reaching the Semifinals. She sang “Unchained Melody” for her Blind Audition.
Shelton was the first coach to turn for Ansley, blocking Stefani in the process. Stefani was the only other coach to turn, meaning Ansley automatically joined Shelton’s team. As he put it, “That’s how badly I wanted Ansley on my team. I blocked my own wife.”
Shelton also emerged victorious at the end of the night, as he got four-chair turn Bodie to join his team. Bodie wowed all of the coaches with his rendition of “You Found Me” by The Fray. He’ll be moving forward on Team Blake.
The Voice will return on Tuesday night at 8/7c on NBC.
