Jepthah Callitong came from humble beginnings but became a viral internet personality after his audition for Pilipinas Got Talent in 2018. He also goes by the name “Wow Magic” which became his signature catchphrase. He is a teenager from Ilocos Sur. Check out this hilarious Filipino magic act below.
Jepthah Callitong Brought ‘Wow Magic’ To ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’
At first, he had a Rubik’s cube that he miraculously was able to match up in the blink of an eye. He had the judges and the audience laughing with his showmanship. Jepthah had two of the judges write something down on a coin with a permanent marker. He made the coin disappear and of course, uttered his catchphrase “wow magic.” Then, Jepthah made the coin reappear and moved on to some card tricks. It’s not that his tricks were particularly amazing, but his personality and sarcasm is what really shined through. He did some basic card tricks including turning one playing card into a necklace. He made it through to the semifinals where his next performance failed to impress the judges. This time he used a miniature toilet plunger to perform a black top table card trick.

At certain moments you could read the confusion on the judges faces. They did not think his magic tricks were up to par with some of the other great magicians Pilipinas Got Talent has ever seen. But, it became clear that Jepthah was a showman and relied heavily on his charms. “You really entertained me a lot. I laughed a lot. You did all your work to entertain me. But of course, everyone has a bad day. We had a bad day here,” Robin Padilla said. “It’s better for you to watch as you are, than for your magic. You’re good at magic ah, but because your personality overshadows you, you’re charming, and you’re so funny, we just want to tell you more stories than you watch your magic,” Angel Locsin said. He earned the second-highest number of votes in the competition at 11.55%. He lost to Xtreme Dancers after the group was chosen by the judges to move on in the competition.
Where Is He Now?
Jepthah later spoke out and said he never expected for his audition to go viral. The video now has over 17 million views.
“I love doing magic, I’m not the really good type but I do it because I like it and it feels different when you make other people happy,” he wrote on Facebook last year. “They say magic is a universal language.”
