Pop star Sinitta, who is Eric’s godmother, previously gave up smoking herself but is supporting the Stoptober campaign to encourage others to cut out cigarettes. Sinitta told The Sun that Eric is serious about helping his dad smoke less.
“He follows him around, with the smoking thing, he only allows Simon to have one puff of a cigarette, he always says ‘how many puffs, how many puffs’, Eric’s like a little cigarette police and keeps him on his toes. It’s very sweet,” Sinitta shared.
Sinitta said Cowell smokes one or two cigarettes a day, sharing that “he doesn’t see himself addicted because he says that he can cut down whenever he wants.” He apparently smokes one puff before putting the cigarette out, multiple times a day. Sinitta said he should try nicotine patches.

Cowell Has Tried to Stop Smoking in the Past
Cowell has tried to curb his smoking habit several times over the years. In 2013, he tweeted, “I have cut down smoking. A lot. Using electric cigarettes to help. Are they bad for you?”
His efforts don’t seem to have lasted very long. In 2015, it was reported that Cowell paid a £100 fine per cigarette he smoked while filming The X Factor, as smoking was not allowed in the building.
After passing out at his home in 2017, Cowell vowed to cut down on smoking once again. He also promised to stay healthier after his 2020 bike accident, in which he broke his back. However, he has been spotted smoking since then.
