Simon Cowell is searching for a new boy band in a docuseries premiering on Netflix later this year. Cowell previously teased the upcoming show, titled Simon Cowell: The Next Act, on social media last year.
Simon Cowell’s New Boy Band Show to Premiere on Netflix
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cowell will star in and produce the new six-episode series, which will depict his journey to “create the next global boyband sensation.” The unscripted project will reportedly premiere in December of this year, although an exact date has not yet been announced.
The show is produced by Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Box to Box Films. Last year, Cowell teased the project on social media with a casting call for potential boy band members. He set up a website called simonneedsyou.com, where hopeful stars between the ages of 16 and 18 could sign up.
In September of last year, Cowell posted on Instagram that they started with around 1,200 boys and were “shortlisting at the moment as to who we will likely be working with later this year.” He called the show “one of the scariest things I’ve ever done.”

Is Cowell Trying to Create Another One Direction?
This year marks the 15-year anniversary of One Direction. The boy band was originally formed on The X Factor UK in 2010, and they went on to become a global sensation. Is Cowell trying to recapture lightning in a bottle with his new boy band series?
There has been some debate among fans about how instrumental Cowell really was in actually creating One Direction. Back in 2022, footage was released that seemed to suggest that putting the group members together was mostly the idea of X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger.
However, Cowell was One Direction’s mentor during that season of the show, in the Groups category, and the band later signed with his Syco Records. What do you think? Can Cowell create another successful boy band?
