Ruben Studdard Serenades Newly Engaged Couple on ‘Judge Steve Harvey’
Reading Time: 3 minutes
American Idol season three winner Ruben Studdard has just taken part in a special moment on Steve Harvey‘s unscripted comedy series, Judge Steve Harvey. The R&B crooner took the time to serenade the romantic couple in dispute, making their wedding proposal heart-melting than the previous one.
Ruben Studdard Sings for Couple’s Brand New Marriage Proposal
Studdard made an appearance on the ABC reality courtroom series to somehow be the fix to a couple’s conflict. During the episode, defendant André Kelly and plaintiff Joy Clarke were debating about Kelly’s unsatisfactory wedding proposal.
Their main issue was whether or not Kelly owed Clarke any amount for the money she spent on outfits and beauty services each time she thought he was going to propose during their international vacations. During the show, “Judge” Harvey favored the defendant’s side, believing that Kelly is not liable to pay for her dresses and nail appointments. However, Harvey ruled that Kelly should pay for her therapy bills due to the anxiety she suffered.
As the final verdict, Harvey said that Kelly and Clarke should settle the whole issue with a brand new proposal. Subsequently, Kelly led Clarke to the front of the court where a romantic space was set up. Yet, before Kelly got to propose, Harvey announced the show’s pleasant surprise.
“I asked a friend of mine to come and to do something special for ’em,” he said. “You all know him because he’s one of the original stars from American Idol. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Ruben Studdard.”
Donning a royal blue suit, Studdard then came and walked through a dramatic haze of smoke as he sang for the pair. After the special moment, Clarke expressed how mind-blowing it was to be serenaded by Studdard.
He Wishes to Have His Own Television Show Someday
On December 3, 2022, Kelly and Clarke finally tied the knot. Prior to the episode’s airing, Studdard revealed that he’d be appearing on the show via a video uploaded on Instagram.
“I’m backstage at the ‘Judge Steve Harvey’ show,” Studdard said. “Getting ready to surprise Andre and Joy. They have no idea I’m coming out. I’m about to serenade ’em, do a little (singing).”
The singer then ended the video by saying that he was excited to see himself on television.
It’s no secret that Studdard’s music career has been successful over a couple of decades since American Idol. However, despite her triumph in the music arena, Studdard has always wanted to dive into the world of hosting. According to the singer, having a tv show has always been a “big dream.”
In an interview alongside Clay Aiken, Studdard mentioned that he wanted a “scripted, slapstick comedy kind of show.”
Seemingly though, this dream had to take a step back as the singer has to gear up for his tour. Starting at the end of September, he and his best friend Clay Aiken will be back performing for their joint tour, Twenty Years, One Night.
