‘The Masked Singer’ Group A Championship Recap: Don’t Miss This MONSTER Reveal!

Season 3 of The Masked Singer is heating up, with the first set of celebrities singing to move on to the Super 9. And if it wasn’t already a dating show for Nicole, now Leah Remini is joining the panel for a Valentine’s Day special. Love is definitely in the air!
But here’s what happened on The Masked Singer in the Group A Championship. Whoever survives will move on to the Super 9, along with the best acts from Groups B and C. So let’s find out who moves on and who’s under the masks!
Who is The Turtle?
Clues: Turtle is having a “shell of a good time” on the show. He shouts out his favorite teacher from high school, Miss S. His teacher says Turtle was in her 9th grade bio class and was “always singing.” The Greek letters “alpha” and “omega” are written on her chalkboard. A map is shown with Seoul, Korea, marked. Then, a bat is shown inside of glass. Miss S ends the clues by saying “I hope you have the time of your life.”
Performance: Kicking off the night, Turtle finally did an upbeat song, “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” by Shawn Mendes. And I loved it! Yes, I think the ballads are more up his alley but this was a good showing to lock himself into the Super 9. Turtle is here to stay! He for sure has experience on stage too.

Who is Miss Monster?
Clues: Miss Monster had her hair stylist talk about her, who happens to be the Monster! He says that Miss Monster is his “spiritual mom.” A slice of pizza is shown hanging from a clothesline. He was “intimidated to meet her at first.” Then, the package displays white socks, camouflage, and a black and white checkered bear on the clothesline. Monster then says you “can’t hurry good hair.” Miss Monster has been through a lot and she hasn’t always been in the press “for who she really is.”
Performance: Next up, Miss Monster performed “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore and let’s just say she’s had better song choices. I don’t know if it was editing or what, but this performance was not up to par with what Miss Monster has done before. Could this be an icon’s swan song this early in the competition?
Judges’ Guesses: Mary Wilson, Queen Latifah, Gloria Gaynor, Chaka Khan

Who is The Kangaroo?
Clues: Kangaroo said she’s “humbled” to be here. Her kid brother says he’s her younger brother by only one year. Though she was a drama queen as a teenager, Kangaroo is the most resilient person he knows. A model airplane is shown hanging from the ceiling. When tragedy hit their family, she held them together. Then, we see an angel woven out of rope and cloth. He also talks about her ability to “rise above the haters.” Kangaroo’s kid brother says he “couldn’t be more proud.”
Performance: Singing “Diamonds” by Rihanna, the Kangaroo proved why she’s still around with this performance. She has a solid, bright voice that cuts through. While I don’t think she’s a professional singer, she’s definitely got some vocal chops! If Kangaroo doesn’t make it to the Super 9, I would be shocked.

Who is The White Tiger?
Clues: The White Tiger says he’s “always known how to work a crowd.” His college roommate then has a chance to talk about him in a bar with a neon “Route 66” sign. He has #1 foam fingers on his hands. There’s also a phone and cubes of butter on the bar. His roommate goes on to tell a story about how he and “White Ty Ty” or “El Tigre” made up a Magic Mike routine to impress girls at a club.
Performance: To close the night, White Tiger…sang?…”We Will Rock You” by Queen. But really, he just shouted a few times and danced a lot. I think I even saw some air guitar in there? What White Tiger has going for him though is his energy. He brings it every time he’s on stage! And honestly, it’s kinda fun to watch.

Miss Monster is Revealed on The Masked Singer!
After the performances ended, the audience and panel voted for who would go home this week on The Masked Singer. And the singer chosen to be unmasked was Miss Monster Now it’s time for final guesses from the panel! Nicole and Rob predicted it’s “the legendary” Chaka Khan. Ken threw out Reba McEntire, but all the other panelists disagreed. Jenny guessed Queen Latifah for her Chicago connection. Guest panelist Leah Remini said it’s Mary Wilson.
Then, Miss Monster was revealed to be…
Chaka Khan!
That means Rob and Nicole both got it. And we predicted it too!
Next week, we will meet a whole new group of costumed celebrities, Group B. We’ll be introduced to the Banana, Frog, Kitty, Taco, Elephant, and Mouse. And we could not be more excited! Tune in with us then, Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX.
