Kristin Chenoweth Says Ariana Grande ‘Blew Me Away’ When She First Heard Her Sing
Reading Time: 3 minutes
It’s now official that Ariana Grande has landed her absolute dream role. After manifesting this publicly since 2011, she is officially Glinda in the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked. Kristin Chenoweth, the original Glinda Broadway actress, Team Ariana The Voice mentor, and Grande’s friend, couldn’t be happier for her.
On November 4 it was announced that Grande had landed her dream role in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical, Wicked. Within this adaptation Grande will be acting alongside Cynthia Erivo, who is playing Elphaba. The director for this long overdue project is Tony Award winner, Jon M. Chu.
Kristin Chenoweth Gave Ariana Grande Hand Soap as a Momento
Ever since this news was announced fans were interested to see how Kristin Chenoweth would react about Grande playing her role. Chenoweth, like any good friend, radiates positivity and happiness when talking about Grande in her role.
“Oh I couldn’t be happier I’ve known her since she was ten. She came to the show and she’s like ‘I want to be Glinda’ in the same exact voice that she has now, just like me,” said Chenoweth. “I said ‘you can be’ and then, her Nana says, ‘oh, you gotta sing for her’ and she did. She blew me away and I was like ‘you have to have something of mine’ so I gave her hand soap and a fake plastic wand, and I said ‘take it’.”
Talk show host Jimmy Fallon laughed immediately after Chenoweth’s statement. He asked if Grande still remembered the interaction. Chenoweth confirmed that Grande does remember the interaction, and didn’t use the soap for a while.
Will Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel Make a Cameo In the Film Adaptation?
As of right now, the film company has not shared whether this would be happening or not. Chenoweth on the other hand, would love to do it and already had it mapped out in her head when the talk show host asked about it.
“Well I haven’t thought about it, but here’s what I think should happen,” Chenoweth laughed. “You know the poster, how Glinda is always looking.. I just thought it’d be cool if the camera panned by and Idina and I were just there and we just, you just saw me go.” She imitated whispering like on the show’s cover art.
I think it would be really cool to tie the Broadway show into the film adaptation through use of Chenoweth and Idina Menzel! Instead of letting the two Wicked adaptations live on their own it would be cool to have a tie between the two. This idea would be a fun Easter egg for Broadway Wicked fans and more of a reason for those who might be new to the storyline to see the Broadway show.
It’s great to see Chenoweth star thrilled about the upcoming cast of Wicked‘s film adaptation. She is clearly more than supportive about Grande playing her role. From her story of meeting Grande, it’s clear that even the original Glinda knew that this was in the popstar’s future.
