Katy Perry to Voice Title Character in Movie ‘Melody’
Deadline first reported the news that Perry will star in the movie, which is being directed and produced by Jeremy Zag, known for creating Miraculous Ladybug. Melody is a singer in New York City who, with the help of magical musical notes, goes up against pop star Rose Stellar’s evil plans to destroy her.
Perry will write and perform songs for the movie. Zag told Deadline that he’s “never seen anyone as creative as Katy, who so personifies this character.” Perry, in turn, said she can relate to Melody’s struggles with insecurity.
“I’m such a big fan of the animation world, and because my daughter is two years old, I am more immersed than ever before,” Perry said. “What resonated for me with Melody and her character is the overall storyline that has to do with self confidence. I’ve realized in laying the foundation for my own child to be fearless, confident and brave, that you cannot have enough films with such strong themes of empowerment.”

The Singer Shared Images of Her Character
“Hi, I’m Melody!” Perry wrote to caption a series of images giving fans a sneak peek at her character. In the first shot, Melody can be seen sporting pink hair and playing acoustic guitar in her room, which is decorated with posters of Rose Stellar.
In another image, Melody gazes up at her posters while her cat sits beside her. And in the final shot, she sits under a blanket singing. Colorful, glowing musical notes surround her, and glowing flowers sprout up from her bed.
Perry shared a few more details about her character with Deadline, explaining that “she’s been through struggles in losing her sister, who becomes a spirit guide.” Melody ends up feeling “really alone” in the city, which Perry also experienced early in her career.
This isn’t Perry’s first time lending her voice to an animated character. She previously voiced Smurfette in The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2.
