Katharine McPhee Cancels Concert Appearances Due to ‘Horrible Tragedy’ in Family

American Idol and The Masked Singer alum Katharine McPhee announced on Friday that she would have to miss the final two shows on her tour of Asia with husband David Foster. McPhee wrote on Instagram that there was a “horrible tragedy” in their family.
Katharine McPhee Cancels Concert Appearances in Asia
McPhee has been a special guest on her husband’s David Foster & Friends Tour. However, the singer had to cancel her appearances at the final two shows of the Asia run, which are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In her Instagram announcement, McPhee wrote that she was canceling “with a heavy heart,” adding, “David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family.”
McPhee didn’t go on to share any more details about what happened, instead ending her note with an apology to fans. She added “how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all.”
The singer’s friends and fans shared their support and concern in the comments of her post, with The Masked Singer panelist Nicole Scherzinger writing, “Sending my love and prayers for your family.”

The Couple Is Touring Together Later This Year
After this weekend’s Jakarta shows, the couple is scheduled to get back to performing together later this year, with tour dates around the United States. According to Foster’s website, the tour will kick off November 1 in Warren, Michigan.
It’s unclear if the current situation will affect either of the musicians’ ability to appear on their upcoming tour dates. As of this writing, Foster has not released a statement about McPhee’s absence from this weekend’s shows.
McPhee and Foster have been married since 2019. In 2021, they welcomed their first child together, a son named Rennie. The couple competed together on The Masked Singer Season 6 as Banana Split, finishing the show in third place.
