Everything We Know About ‘DWTS’ Pro Cheryl Burke’s Divorce From Matthew Lawrence

After almost three years of marriage, Dancing With The Stars professional dancer Cheryl Burke has reached a divorce settlement with former husband Matthew Lawrence. Here’s everything to know about their relationship, divorce settlement, and more.
Cheryl Burke, Matthew Lawrence Are Divorced
Citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split, Burke filed for a divorce on February 2022 in Los Angeles. Apparently, the ballroom pro and the Boy Meets World alum did not exhaust too much finance for a tedious court case. Rather, the pair mutually signed a written agreement about their divorce before the papers were submitted.
According to the document obtained by The Blast, “The parties have entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership, rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been submitted to the court. I request that the court approve the agreement.”
Burke and Lawrence signed a prenuptial agreement before they tied the knot. In addition, the couple did not bear children in the course of their marriage. These probably played a large part in the speedy process of their divorce.
In Burke’s short life update on Instagram, she affirmed that the last three months have been a “whirlwind” for her.
“Certain stuff that I allowed to have power over me in the past, no longer carry that same weight in my life. In fact, the lesson I’ve learned is that these experiences come in my life and have enabled me to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually,” the DWTS star said. She further expressed that albeit her journey’s not been easy, she would not have it any other way.
The Couple Struggled in Keeping Their Marriage Intact
The romantic link between Burke and Lawrence started in 2007 when they met through Lawrence’s brother, who was then competing on Dancing With The Stars. A year after, the couple split and continued with their lives. However, in 2017, the two found each other again and revived their romance. Subsequently, the pair announced their engagement in 2018 and finally got married in 2019.
Although the two would always share in the media that their married life has been nothing short of amazing, Burke and Lawrence also admitted about encountering relationship setbacks, especially during quarantine. In the same vein, Lawrence admitted that there have been disagreements, but maintained that they were “doing good” as a married couple.
Before the legal split, Burke and Lawrence were honest in declaring how they have been each other’s support system. Unfortunately, they failed to worked their marriage out and have now officially called it quits.
Last February, Burke admitted through an Instagram post that her marriage was ending.
“I hope you can understand that I will not be commenting any further at this time and am asking for understanding and privacy. Thank you all for all the kind words and support you’ve given me,” she requested.
DWTS Pro Seems to Hint at Cheating in a TikTok Video
Speculations on infidelity rose when Burke posted a cryptic TikTok video in the middle of her divorce. With a serious face directed at the camera, an overlayed text which reads “When he said he would never talk to her again yet I found text messages, viagra, and a necklace hidden in a pair of his shoes…” was written over the clip.
Although the professional dancer didn’t mention names, fans to theorize that Lawrence cheated during their marriage. Coincidentally, this opinion was heightened when Lawrence was seen hanging out with TLC’s Chilli amid the divorce. Nonetheless, Chilli’s representative clarified the issue, saying that the two are simply linked platonically.
Burke Opened Up The Idea of Dating Again
Following the divorce, Burke has opened up about dating in her recently launched podcast, “Burke in the Game.” The DWTS pro confessed that she is starting to be open with the idea of dating again, “slowly but surely.”
“It doesn’t necessarily mean, though, that I’m ready to get on Raya or any of these dating apps just yet. I definitely want to start, maybe, meeting new people,” she explained. “I wouldn’t mind having a text relationship with someone or even just someone to flirt with.”
Concurrently, Cheryl Burke belongs to the 14 professional dancers that will be competing in Dancing With The Stars Season 31. She was among the cast who appeared in Disney’s promotional video. The talent competition will premiere on Monday, September 19, 2022.
