The third annual Savage X Fenty fashion event premiered yesterday on Amazon Prime Video. Known for Rihanna’s efforts in diversity, inclusivity, and representation within her brand, the singer featured models from all walks of life. The modern take on lingerie showcased individuals from all skin tones, sizes, and genders on the runway. A standout model at the event was none other than RuPaul’s Drag Race Star, Gottmik. The drag queen brought not only flare to the stage, but a statement in transgender representation.
Gottmik is the first transgender man to ever compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race, making his presence alone one to go down in history. The Drag star’s appearance as part of the Savage X Fenty vol. 3 show was just as historic.
Gottmik Expresses Excitement to represent Trans Community in Interview
“Oh my God I cannot even describe how it feels to be walking right now,” Gottmik said in an interview. “I remember watching last year, and it was before I was on drag race, it was before everything started popping off for me and I was like, I need to walk in that show, I just want to be this trans representation up in the Fenty system. I’m so honored to be here and I’m ready to kill it.”
The drag star went on to explain that she was on tour before receiving the call to walk in the show. In a humorous anecdote, Gottmik describes getting the call from Rihanna’s team while in a Starbucks. She also expressed what the opportunity meant to her regarding representation for the community.
“It’s the most important thing in the world because I even personally didn’t transition for so long because I didn’t see anyone like me in the media, so I thought I was just crazy or something. It took a lot of self love and strength to figure out on my own, but If I had someone like me it would have been a lot faster,” she said.
The third volume of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty fashion show also provided an abundance of A-listers such as Adriana Lima, Alek Wek, Behati Prinsloo, Irina Shayk, Jeremy Pope, Joan Smalls, Jojo T. Gibbs, Leiomy, Lola Leon, Mena Massoud, Nyjah Huston, Sabrina Carpenter, Soo Joo Park, The Symone, Thuso Mbedu, and Troye Sivan.
