Derek Hough and his fiancée Hayley Erbert recently shared a dance video set to “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid. In a new video, the couple reacted to the routine and shared some behind-the-scenes tidbits about how it was filmed.
Derek Hough, Hayley Erbert React to ‘Kiss the Girl’ Video
For last month’s video, Hough and Erbert danced to a cover of “Kiss the Girl” sung by Hough himself. They performed the routine in a puddle of water with a dreamy landscape behind them. As the new video shows, that background actually appeared on a screen behind them while they danced.
As the couple shared, there were quite a few challenges involved in making the video. Erbert shared how cold the water was when she filmed the moment where she rises out of it. The wet environment also caused them to slip.
One mishap that made them wonder if the video would even get finished was when Erbert’s dress ripped. It seemed like it would be impossible to repair, but with the help of an on-set hairdresser, they managed to sew it back together and finish the project.

Why Didn’t the Couple Kiss in the Video?
Considering the couple was dancing to “Kiss the Girl,” fans might have expected them to kiss at the end of the dance routine. However, that didn’t actually happen. Hough and Erbert acknowledged this in their new video.
“For some reason, I can’t watch people kiss on TV,” Hough explained, adding that he covers his eyes when he sees people go in for a kiss. “I’m like a little kid.”
He then instructed viewers to close their eyes as he went in to kiss Erbert. As soon as their lips touched, Hough got embarrassed and started laughing. The video then cut to a clip of Ariel and Eric kissing in The Little Mermaid.
Fans of the Disney movie will know that the original “Kiss the Girl” scene doesn’t end with an actual kiss, either. So Hough and Erbert were just keeping it authentic.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
