Three American Idol alums are set to return to the show for this Sunday’s Top 20 episode. Last season’s winner Chayce Beckham will appear, as well as Season 17 runner-up Alejandro Aranda and Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips.

‘American Idol’ Alums Returning for Top 20 Episode

According to People, all three singers will perform during Sunday night’s show, which will be three hours long. Fans will no doubt be excited to see Season 19 champion Chayce Beckham take the stage again. Alejandro Aranda (aka Scarypoolparty) was also a hugely popular contestant in Season 17.

In the time since he won Season 11 in 2012, Phillip Phillips has released three studio albums. In 2020, he returned to Idol twice, including a performance of his winner’s single “Home” to accompany an at-home edition of the show. He also joined in on “We Are the World” with several other contestants and judge Lionel Richie in the Seaosn 18 finale.

The contestants who make it into the Top 20 on Sunday night will perform for America’s vote, and the Top 14 will then be revealed during Monday night’s episode. The competition is narrowing down quickly as Season 20 continues.

The Season 20 Competition Is Narrowing Down

A promo for the episode teases that four contestants will go home. However, it’s not clear if Kenedi Anderson counts as one of those four contestants. The Platinum Ticket winner withdrew from the competition after the Top 24 round, which took place at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

Kenedi cited “person reasons” for leaving, and posted on Instagram that it was “one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.” Viewers weren’t able to vote for the singer, essentially bringing the Top 24 down to the Top 23.

“We are disappointed to see Kenedi leave, but we are excited to watch this celebratory 20th season unfold with the incredible talent vying to be the next American Idol,” Fremantle Media told People in a statement.

Be sure to tune in to American Idol on ABC at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday.
